Voting is the action of choosing somebody or something in an election or at a meeting. Singapore is a democratic country; therefore every Singaporean citizen at the age of 21 will be given a priority to vote for party they think is suitable in governing Singapore. In Tampines there is a contest going on between People action party (PAP) and Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA)
In 2001 in general election, a similar battle took place and PAP won with nearly 75 per cent of the valid votes. For the coming election, the PAP team was led by National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan consists of lawyer Ong Kian Min, NTUC Media's Managing Editor, Irene Ng and two newcomers - SingTel's Vice President, Masagos Zulkifli and lawyer Sin Boon Ann. For SDA team was led by film-maker Lim Tung Hee, who quit the Singapore Democratic Party early this year.
If I am to vote, I will give my vote to PAP.
Firstly, I think that they really did a good job in the past few years in governing Singapore. An example is Tampines, under the governed by PAP, many of the residents are very satisfies living in Tampines, even one hardly has complains about Tampines including me. Tampines has many facilities like shopping more for teenagers, golden pines for the elderly, a library and sport hall.
Secondly, a candidate must have character, commitment, ability and a good track record in order to be a leader. I think tat PAP has these qualities as Singapore has risen up to the first world standards as measured by the World Bank, the World Economic Forum and Transparency International. They discuss main issues like making Singapore safe, stable, racially harmonious and globally competitive. However, what did other party like SDC discuss about? What they can guarantee us? Is it county growth, stability or a safe country to stay in?
Thirdly, as Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said: “The Opposition was currently making promises they did not have to fulfill because they know they are not fighting to form the Government.” Therefore, they are making empty promise. Since the promise cannot be fulfill why should I vote for them. That’s why I prefer to vote for PAP who do whatever they promise to do.
Forth, I vote for PAP because they have experience in governing the Singapore. PAP knows what to do for problem like floods. They know how things in Singapore work more than anyone else. For PAP, they have the entire vision of running Singapore but not the opposition party. If you let a party who never govern a country before to run Singapore, I think it will turn out really chaotic and pathetic
